A quaint and peaceful oasis tucked amongst majestic mountains
A peaceful and quaint community nestled amongst rolling hills and majestic mountains, Latrobe is home to a vibrant and walkable downtown brimming with shops and restaurants. The community also boasts an abundance of parks, trails, recreational facilities, cultural amenities, and historical buildings.
Latrobe has a long and storied past and is known for the Latrobe Brewery (the original brewer of Rolling Rock beer), Saint Vincent College (where the Pittsburgh Steelers hold their training camp every summer), famed golfer Arnold Palmer, the first banana split, and Fred Rogers—the creator, composer, and host of “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.”
This family-friendly community exudes small-town charm and rich history. Residents enjoy a high quality of life due to the walkable and friendly streets, excellent school system, and active community.
Latrobe is home to DiSalvo’s Station, a train depot that has been restored into an Italian eatery featuring classic fare, Sunday brunch, and a basement cigar bar. Cheer on your favorite team at Sharkey’s Café, a casual tavern serving eclectic American fare.
From museums to nature reserves, there’s plenty to do in this exciting community. Take the family for skating lessons at the Latrobe Skating Rink, which encourages children to build confidence on skates alongside other beginners. More family fun awaits at Idlewild Park, which features classic amusement park rides, waterpark, live entertainment, and unique attractions like Story Book Forest and Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood. Idlewild also plays host to year-round events the whole family will enjoy.
The Winnie Palmer Nature Reserve, located adjacent to Saint Vincent College, features native landscapes, trails, meadows, gardens, environmental learning barn, play spaces, ponds, wetlands, and more. Also located near Saint Vincent College is the Saint Vincent Basilica Parish and Fred Rogers Center. The Fred Rogers Center is the official home of the Fred Rogers Archive, as well as a straightforward, understanding, and compassionate voice for the healthy development of children. The center provides learning and growth opportunities for students at Saint Vincent College who will go on to work with and for children in their careers. It also aims to help adults understand how to use technology in the service of children, and how to ensure technology does not take the place of the essential human interactions and relationships in a child’s life.
